Mary Ann Fairchild was born in London, England, the daughter of George and Mary (Hitchcock) Spurway. Her father, who was also born in London on May 5, 1845, came to America where he was engaged in the contracting business until his death at Detroit in 1926. His wife, Mary, was born in London about September 20, 1845 and is living in Springfield, Illinois.
Upon the completion of her grade school education, she attended high school and business college at Springfield, and came to Nebraska in 1904. Of her marriage to James Donville Fairchild there are two children, Mary Eleanor, born December 4, 1892, who married Robert Waters Turner. She is a musician. Donville Seymour, born December 8, 1900, married Kathryn Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska; he is employed in the actuarial department of the Woodmen of the World at Omaha.
For the past 18 years, Mrs. Fairchild has been connected with the State Insurance Department, as clerk, chief clerk, assistant chief and deputy commissioner; at the present time she is assistant to the Commissioner of Insurance and Securities. She is a member of the Red Cross, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, The Nebraskana Society, and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Residence: Lincoln.
