John Miller - JOHNSON CITY

Mr. John A. Miller, age 80, Johnson City, TN passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 23, 2010 in his home surrounded by family.

A native of Washington County, Mr. Miller was the son of the late William and Anna Lee Smith Miller. He was a 1948 graduate of Lamar High School, and attended Steed Business College. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954.

John was a successful business man. He loved working with wood, and formerly owned a cabinet shop, and a construction business. For the last thirty years he and his son operated Colonial Machinery Sales refurbishing and selling woodworking machinery.

He was an avid fisherman, and loved fishing on any stream, river, lake or ocean, especially with his grandson Jonathan. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with his family and his best pal "Duke". He was a man of integrity, loving and compassionate, always looking for ways to help others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife and mother of his children, Cinderella Henley Miller; two sisters, Alice Bernice Goss and Laura Elizabeth Miller and one brother, Cecil Bruce Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Luttrell Miller, Johnson City; his children, Charles Franklin Miller, Johnson City; Susan Miller Thompson and husband Kent, Piney Flats; his grandson, Jonathan Charles Miller, Jonesborough; step-children Dan Luttrell and Alice Overholt, Knoxville; Alan Luttrell, Greeneville; six step-grandchildren, and one step-great granddaughter; two sisters, Nadine Francis Jones and Anna Marie Foley, both of Johnson City; two brothers, Walter Franklin Miller, Kingsport and Billy Dean Miller, Johnson City; and several nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Fain officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Telford Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William Kent Thompson, Jonathan Miller, Dan Luttrell, Alan Luttrell, Danny Overholt and Jake Mynatt.

The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Charles Montgomery, Greeneville, the nursing staff on 4500 at JCMC, Hospice and our dear friends and family for all their prayers and support.
