Avis Ione (Colburn) Backus, 76, of the Fairview section, died Monday at home. She was co-owner of Econo Wash Laundromat. Born in Hanover, N.H., she was educated in Windsor, Vt., and lived in Plattsburg, N.Y., before moving here in 1962. Her husband, Raymond F. Backus, died in 1998. She leaves a brother, Eugene F. Colburn of Ludlow. The funeral will be Friday morning at Phaneuf-Blais Fairview Funeral Chapels, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
