William A. OATESS, 81, died this morning at 6:15 in the Rochester Nursing Home. His death was attributed to complications. He had been ill for several years but his condition had become worse in the last few days. He had been residing in the home of his son, Russell OATESS, of this city, for the past three years.

Born May 20, 1868, he was the son of John A. and Elizabeth Ann SCHOFF OATESS, of Marion. He was married in 1893 at LaFontain to Anna Elizabeth RUDICEL. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 1933.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Bethlehem Methodist church at Twelve Mile. He came to Rochester from Andrews, Ind., three years ago.

Survivors include his son, Russell; four daughters, Mrs. Esther ABBOTT, of Star City; Mrs. Clara A. WERTZ, of Van Wert, Ohio, Mrs. Nellie STRAUCH, of Logansport, and Mrs. Mary WENDLER, of Rochester; two half-brothers, Roy TALMADGE, of Dayton, Ohio and Abijah COX, of Kent, Ohio.

Funeral services will be a 3 p.m. Monday in the Methodist church at Andrews with the Rev. Thomas LUKE being assisted by the Rev. George MANLY. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Andrews. The body will lie in state at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Previous to that it will be in the Zimmerman Bros. funeral home.
