Rochester Sentinel,Monday, September 22, 1969:

Last rites were held this morning at Crawfordsville for Russell E. OATESS, 58, former resident of Rochester who died Friday afternoon at the Crawfordsville hospital after a five-year illness. Burial was in Royal Center.

Mr. Oatess had resided in Crawfordsville the past 20 years, managing the Singer Sewing Center there for seven years.

A former City Councilman here, he also had operated a chicken hatchery at 214 East Sixth street. He was a member of the Rochester Masonic lodge.

Born in Star City July 14, 1911, he was the son of William and Elizabeth RUDICEL OATESS. His marriage was at Royal Center April 29, 1934, to Dorothy PUFAHL, who survives. He was a member of the Crawfordsville United Methodist church.

Also surviving are two sons, William and Donald [OATESS], both of Indianapolis; a daughter, Beth Ann [OATESS], a junior at Purdue university; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Esther ABBOTT, Star City; Mrs. Clara WERTZ, Conway, O.; Mrs. Nellie STRAUCH, Logansport, and Mrs. Mary SILVENUS, Silver Lake. One sister preceded in death.
