In 1896, Erling's father immigrated from Rindal, Norway to America : to Romundstad Valley, Norseville, Wisconsin.
Erling was born June 23, 1920 in Romundstad Valley, Norseville, Wisconsin, a son of Lars and Christine (Romundstad) Ytgard. The family moved to Montana and then on to Battleground, WA for eight years. The family moved to Sterling in 1930. Erling attended the Sterling grade school and the Sedro-Woolley High School.
He was involved in farm work all his life, which included Holtcamps, Chris Knutzen Farms and farms in Ontario, OR. He farmed on the family farm in Sterling until 1991.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Reidar and Millie Ytgard, of Bow; three nephews, Alan (Terri) Heyntsen, of Sedro-Woolley, Brian (Kari) Heyntsen, of Sandy, OR, Terry Holden (Joanne), of Prosser; six nieces, Arlene (Jim) Obtinario, of Sequim, Ardelle (Rich) Gronquist, of Marysville, Wendy Morrison (Keith), of Mount Vernon, Deanne Tausher, of Seattle, Krista West, of Meridian, ID, and Diane Lawrenson, of Burlington; and one brother-in-law, Melvin Heyntsen, of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Borgny Heyntsen.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.
Burial was held in Burlington Cemetery.
