Mrs. Luella Butler Burnsed, age 92, died on Saturday at Heritage Inn under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Bryan County native moved to Bulloch County in 1930. From the late 30's to the early 50's, she and her husband operated the "Country Store" adjacent to Nevils High School, now Nevils Elementary. Two for a penny candy, moon pies, Pop Cola and many other "long forgotten" brands of soft drinks, and the area's first fresh soft frozen ice cream were store favorites. The store was a favorite spot during recess and lunch for many Nevils students. She was also a charter member of the Nevils United Methodist Church where she served faithfully until 1992 when she entered Metter Nursing Home with her husband of 68 years, H.C. (Chandos) Burnsed. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 and her daughter, Levita B. Ellington in 1961.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Arminda and Charles Ellison of Nevils; one son, A. Alwyne (Al) Burnsed of Savannah; eight grandchildren, Gilda and Bobby Bass, Susan and Stephen Darieng, Gregory and Sharon Ellison, Randal Ellison and Tracie Fox, Rhonda Morgan, Deneise and Michael Coleman, Ashley and Meredith Burnsed, and Glen and Traci Burnsed; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Nevils United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hodges-Turner-Anderson Funeral Home.
