Adelina Mutaw y Chapman was born on her parents' homestead on Mutau (Mutaw) Flat in the Sespe wilderness. She was the daughter of William (Guillermo) Mutau and Vicenta Francisca Chapman y Villa, and a descendent of Captain Francisco Ortega and Joseph John Chapman. She left Matau Flat with her mother for Saticoy, but by 1887 they were living at Rancho La Ballona (now Venice). She married Juan "John" Alfredo Lugo y Machado at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California, on April 13, 1903. They soon built a house on Walgrove Avenue that remained their home for the rest of their lives. Her mother and brother Guillermo Mutaw are also buried in this cemetery.
