2016: Found the probate records for Jesse's will in Wright County Minnesota, it clearly states that he has 7 children surviving "by" his FIRST wife. (Not included is William Henry Stith who died at about age 6). This lists his married daughter Francis Susan Stith Martin. RLF July 2016
2014: I have ran across several researchers including me, that is confused by how many wives Jesse had. I am not sure if Eliza Jane Hatton is his first wife or second.
HOWEVER, in the marriage listing in Kentucky it states Eliza B. Hatton, since Eliza is NEVER listed anywhere without the J. or Jane, I doubt at this time that this marriage record is for these two people. Also this Jesse is listed as Stitch.
In the 1850 census Eliza Jane and Jesse are living together, along with a 6 month old baby (Frances Susan).
I found a marriage record on Family Search from Lawrence, Kentucky for 06 Aug 1844, and approved by Johns(t)on Hatton, Eliza J.'s father. Thus the marriage record of 1851 in Kentucky is probably NOT part of this family line.
