PLAINS– Annie Linhart Vacura, 94 one of the last pioneers of Sanders County, died Saturday in Clark Fork Valley Hospital.
She was born November 12,1888, on the homestead of her parents, John and Gertrude Linhart, near Heron Lake, Minnesota.
The family moved to North Dakota in 1998 in a covered wagon and on August 16, 1904, she married Louis Vacura in Bisbee, North Dakota.
In 1910, the couple homesteaded at Camas Praire, when the Flathead Valley was first opened for homesteading.
They remained there until 1918m when they moved to Plains and purchased the Plains Machine Shop. In 1924, Louis Vacura bought the Ford dealership in Plains and it became Vacura Motors.
She was preceded in death by her husband on November 7, 1963. She is survived by eight sons; Clarence, Plains: Edward, Spokane: Bodley, Missoula: Wesley, Plains: John. Federal Way, Washington: Albert, Fairbanks, Alaska: Jerry, Billings: and Louis, Kalispell. She is also survived by six daughters, Edith Avery and Gertrude Bryce of Plains: Florence Overcast, Missoula: Levena Noil, Fairbanks: Ramona Larson, Missoula: and Roxanne Brothers of Kalispell; 101 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Wake services will be tonight at 7 at Shrider Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Plains with Rev. John P. Kerrigan as celebrant. Burial will be at Plains Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church or the Clark Fork Valley Medical Foundation.
