Gordon P McDermott, 87, passed away December 18, 2010 from a stroke.
He died peacefully, at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, sur- rounded by his devoted family.

Gordon was born February 16, 1923 in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the third of five boys born to Lyle and Marguerite McDermott. Gordon was raised in Boise, Idaho.

He graduated from Boise High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Navy. His plans changed when he was drafted into the army. Gordon landed in the first wave of soldiers at Utah Beach on D-Day and 12 days later returned to the beach to protect General Patton's arrival in France. He fought in 7 major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. Gordon, with the help of Congressman Walt Minnick, recently received most of his medals including a bronze star and a silver star. Unfortunately, due to a fire that destroyed his and many military records, Gordon did not receive the deserved purple hearts and silver cross. The family will continue to work at obtaining these well-deserved medals.

Upon returning to Boise from World War II, Gordon met and instantly fell in love with Gloria Collett. They were married in 1946 and later reaffirmed their marriage in the Catholic Church.

Gordon worked in construction, retiring from Boise Cascade, Meridian Housing Division, as manager of the Modular Housing Plant. Gordon and Gloria raised a loving family of boys. The family enjoyed the many wonders of Idaho including a cabin they built together in McCall.

Gordon was an avid hunter and fisherman. A good day for Gordon was walking with his dog and a gun with his sons beside him.

Gordon is preceded in death by: his parents; Gloria his wife of 49 years; and his brother Dick.

Gordon is survived by: his brothers, Lyle of New York, Bob of California, and Ken of Eagle, Idaho; sons Mike (Linda) of Lebanon, Oregon and David (Barbara) of Eagle, Idaho; his grandchildren, Jeanie, Benjamin, Rachelle, Brianne, Mallory, Mackenzie, Maria, and Emily; and one great granddaughter, Mila; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his second love, Gwen Cook of Caldwell, Idaho and his faithful dogs Panzer and Carmel.

On Tuesday, December 21, a viewing will be held at Alden- Waggoner Chapel (5400 Fairview Ave) at 6:00 p.m. with a vigil to follow at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 22, at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church (811 S Latah).
Interment will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Alden- Waggoner.
