HAMBURG, NY - Sister Mary Assumpta (Sophie Czech) died peacefully the evening of November 27, 2005 in the Colette Health Center in Hamburg. She was in her 96th year of life and her 78th year of religious life.
She was born on June 8, 1909 in Chicopee. Sr. Assumpta was the daughter of the late Antoni J. and Mary A. (Deren) Czech. Sister was an elementary school teacher at Holy Cross in Fall River, St. Vincents in North Evans, NY, St. Anthonys in Fairfield, CT, Corpus Christi in Buffalo, NY, Holy Trinity in Westfield, and in Mater Dolorosa in Holyoke before retiring in 1991 to the Immaculate Conception Convent in Hamburg.
Sister is predeceased by a sister, Lena Czech; three brothers, Valentine, Peter and Stanley Czech; and a nephews, Ronald Czech. She is survived by her brother, a sister-in-law, and many cousins.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr. The burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. in the basilica. Cierpial Funeral Home
