INJURIES PROVE FATAL TO J.P. BOYER, 68

Injuries he suffered when he fell from a haystack on the farm of his son, near Audubon last week, have proved fatal to John P. Boyer, 68, former county treasurer and for many years a prominent resident of the Audubon community.

He died Sunday night at 10 p.m., at St. Mary's hospital from a fractured spine. Mr. Boyer's health had been failing in recent months following his retirement from farming last winter. He and Mrs. Boyer had lived in the city since January.

Funeral services will be today (Thursday) at 1:45 p.m., in the West funeral home and at 2:30 p.m., in Audubon Lutheran church. Rev. H.H. Knudsvig will officiate and burial will be in the Audubon cemetery. Pallbearers will be O.A. Netland, Gilbert Overboe, Henry Myhree, C.M. Lund, Nelmer Anderson and Geo. Tignor.

Boyer was born September 25, 1876 in Hamden township, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Boyer, pioneers. He was married to Enga Arness January 2, 1902.

For five years he operated a store in Audubon. It was known as the Boyer-Gottenborg firm. Later he returned to operate the homestead farm.

He served as county treasurer from 1910 to 1918, preceding the late J.M. Connell in office.

Boyer held many other positions in the Audubon community. He was township clerk for 25 years, served on the Farmers Elevator board and was president of the Audubon Co-Operative Creamery association. He also was a member of the school board for many years.

Eight children survive. They are: Philip, Northfield, Mich.; Mrs. Ed Garland (Helen), Walled Lake, Mich.; Mrs. Harold Stenberg (Elizabeth), Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Aldrich Storry (Charlotte), Aitkin; Paul of Audubon; Mrs. Carl Halvorson (Kathryn), Salem, Ore.; Capt. Randolph Boyer and John Boyer, Seabee, in the United States Navy. The latter two will be unable to attend the services. Also surviving are three brothers, Ole and Carl, Detroit Lakes, and Theodore, Beltrami; and a sister, Lena, Minneapolis.
