Kathryn Virginia Boyer Halvorson, 88, passed away of cancer Sept. 25, 2010, in Portland. She was the wife of Carl M. Halvorson, a Portland area general contractor, real estate developer, and civic leader.

A constitutionalist, Kathryn wrote to the White House every day for the past 25 years. She was also deeply loved and respected by her six children, for whom she was a life-long role model as an individual-istic and original thinker, activist, and advocate for universal religious and constitutional values and principles, and for gender equality.

Born in Audubon, Minn., to a farming family, she relocated to Oregon early in her adult life and raised her family in Lake Oswego.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter, Kalli Rose Halvorson. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Kyeson of Portland; Karin Ditzler of Stevenson, Wash., (Richard Ditzler); Kristi Halvorson of Sherwood (Steve Keppler); Raundi Halvorson-Quevedo of Paris (Jose Quevedo); and Carl Halvorson Jr. of Portland; and many grandchildren. The family held a private service in River View Cemetery.
