Great-Grandpa was a caring, yet quiet man, who made his presence known from what I can remember. He had a firm faith in our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ and his Church right up to his dying day. He showed his love of the Lord in the way he treated other people and by the way his lived his life. He was a faithful member of the United Brethren Church in Neshkoro Wisconsin which later merged with the United Methodist Church. He was a member there at the time of his death. He was married to Bertha Schultz Hardel and had three children, Dora Amanda Hardel Schultz, Erma Wagner and one son who died in infancy in 1909, Herbert A. Hardel. He had a farm that he worked that was just outside of Spring Lake for many years. They raised a great number of animals there and had a large garden there. After many years they sold the farm and moved to Neshkoro. They lived in Neshkoro, on Walker Street for many, many years after they left the farm. They were well respected couple there in the community. After his wife's death in 1964, which came just a few months before they were to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, he found it was too lonely to live by himself in Neshkoro so he stayed at his daughter Dora's home in Spring Lake. It was there at my Grandmothers home that he suffered a stoke that eventually led to his passing. He was taken care of by my Grandmother, which was his daughter, Dora, at her own home. He was so weak from the stroke and old age he hardly left the house. He spent a lot of time sitting in my Grandmothers reclining chair. I remember our family going to visit him there very often. He finally went to meet God in the Wautoma Hospital. His wife Bertha and an infant son preceded him in death. He is buried next to his wife and infant son next to their Church in Neshkoro. He was loved and missed by many. His life was an example for everyone to follow. He was a loving, caring father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather.

Cause of Death: Complications from a stroke.
