Norma Shumway Barton Wengreen age 85 of Orem, passed away December 14, 2010 in Provo, Utah.Norma was born in Moab, Utah to Harris and Ester Price Shumway, November 14, 1925. She grew up in Blanding, Utah. She participated in Baseball and had a keen mind memorizing many monologues and readings in her life. She graduated from San Juan High School in 1943. She then worked at the Navy Defense Plant in Clearfield, Utah until she left to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North California Mission and then served another one in the Navajo Zuni Mission for six months. Norma and Dean served as guides on Temple Square and later served a Church Education Mission at the University of Arkansas and surrounding areas. They also served many years in the Provo and Mount Timpanogos temples as ordinance workers. She later accompanied Dean to the temple as he served as a sealer. She loved the gospel and had a great love for her family and a deep concern of others and their welfare. She had an adventurous spirit throughout her life and had the opportunity to travel across America, and visit Central America, Europe, and the Middle East, she particularly loved church history tours and visiting the Holy Land. She married Evan Hewitt Barton in the Mesa, Arizona Temple November 7, 1950. After the death of her husband in 1965 Norma the children moved to Hyrum, Utah where she met A. Dean Wengreen. They married in 1969 in Logan, Utah. She is survived by her sisters Mary Black and Claudia Orr of Blanding, Utah and one brother, Dale Shumway also of Blanding, Utah; her children: Bodell Esplin/Mark, Callie Wilcox/Blair (deceased), Kymm Story/Dave, Becky Iler/Dave, Jed Barton/Jill, Audra Topham/Keith, Jann Hamson/Paul, Leonard Barton/Shannon, Bartona Davenport /John; her stepchildren: Stuart Wengreen/Brenda, Debra Johnson /Jay, Cory Wengreen/Devin, Shelly Jackson/Eric, Krissy Wilson/Kim, Leslie Ferguson/Scott, Jeff Wengreen /Kathy, Syd Wengreen/Kim, Angie Churchill, Spencer Wengreen /Kristine, Mark Wengreen/Beth, 87 grandchildren and over 50 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harris and Esther Shumway, her brother, Cleon Shumway and a stepson, David Wengreen. A viewing will be held at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home at 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah, Sunday, December 19th, from 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 20th, from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. a second viewing will be held at Sharon Park Meeting House 225 East 200 North, Orem, Utah, preceding the funeral which will begin at 1:00 p.m. Then Wednesday December 22nd, 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. a final viewing will be held at the Eastland Chapel with another funeral at 1:00 p.m. and interment at Eastland cemetery.
