"Jacob Schmitt, Jr. was the eldest son of Jacob Schmitt, Sr. and Rosana. It is possible, though not proven, that Jacob Jr. was born in Lebanon Township, Lancaster County, PA prior to the family's move from there to Bedford (later Blair) County. Upon his father's death in 1797, Jacob Jr. inherited the farmstead. For a number of years, beginning in 1814, Jacob Jr. and his wife, Rachel (Fickes) operated a tavern in their house, which was situated on the Frankstown to Johnstown Road."
