Elizabeth was born in Ohio to Daniel and Catherine (Coppenheffer) Schwab. She married Joseph Clemens on Christmas Day in 1850 at her sister's home in Carroll Co., OH. In 1867, she and Joseph moved to Mt. Sterling, Brown Co., Ill. Elizabeth bore 11 children, 7 of whom survived childhood.
