Services for Aleda B. Brasher, 69, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, August 6 at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Dr. L. Nolan Duck officiating. Interment will be in the Walker cemetery.
Born in Yell County, Arkansas, Mrs. Brasher resided in Lufkin for the past three years. She was raised and lived most of her life in Lake Providence, Louisiana. While living in Louisiana, she worked as a telephone operator for the Southern Bell Company and also as a bookkeeper for the Bank of Dixie.
She was a devoted member of First Baptist church where she and her husband, Hubert, served as Directors of the Adult 6 Sunday School Dept. She was a champion "race walker" having won both the Louisiana and Texas Senior Olympic competition. She also placed in the National Senior Olympics. She was an avid bridge player. She loved children and volunteered in Vacation Bible School programs throughout her life. She had also been on several mission trips while living in Louisiana. She was a remarkable Christian woman.
She is survived by her husband Hubert Brasher; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Susan Brasher of Shreveport; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jim Herrington of Houston; 6 grandchildren, Lance and Adam Brasher, James, Nathan and Amanda Herrington, Emily Hartzog and her husband Ryan; 1 great-granddaughter, Haley Hartzog.
She is also survived by 2 sisters, Lavaun Ottnot and her husband Bud and Vestine Fortenberry.
