Posthumous awards of the Purple Heart and the Silver Star have been made to Sergeant Aaron D. Shank, 21, killed June 7, 1942, in the Midway battle. He was reported missing by the War Department last year and June 7, 1943, was declared officially dead.
His wife, Mrs. Theresa (Bennett) Shank, 720 Brookfield Avenue, has received the Purple Heart and will be sent the Silver Star later.
Sergt. Shank was a bombardier in the 31st Bombardment Squadron and was on the plane which carried Maj. Gen. Clarence V. Tinker to his death. He enlisted in the Air Forces January 19, 1940, and once served at Hickam Field, Hawaii.
