DAYTON, Charles D., 87, of Bloomingdale, Ohio, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at his daughters residence of natural causes.

He was born on August 29, 1921 in Jewett, Ohio, the son of the late Charles E. and Mary S. Orr Dayton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty E. Harris Dayton; three brothers, Glenn, Frank and Lonnie Dayton; and two sisters, Armatha Furby and Vivian "Peggy" Lawson.

Charles retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad as a trackman and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth (Bonnie) Dayton; a daughter, Rita K. (Richard) Butler, with whom he resided, both of Bloomingdale; five grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and brother, Jewel (Shirley) Dayton of Smithfield, Ohio.

Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, on Monday from 4-7 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Hubert Granger to officiate.

Burial in Fort Steuben Burial Estates, where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services
