Born at Canton, Lieutenant Collins moved to Dallas with his parents while an infant. He attended the Ben Milam Elementary School and was a graduate of North Dallas High School. He lived at 5210 Vanderbilt.
Lieutenant Collins entered service in April 1942. He received his commission as a second lieutenant from officer candidate school at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1943.
He was a member of the Third Army and participated in the invasion of Normandy.
Lieutenant Collins is survived by his parents and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. McKinnon of Edom, Texas.
