Joe Styskal Passed Away Last Thursday

Joseph F. Styskal, son of Frank and Agnes Styskal, was born on
March 7, 1879 at Bruno, Nebraska. On February 9, 1904. He was married to Sophie Sabata at the Appleton Catholic Church. The couple made their home in the Bruno vicinity until 1920 when they moved to Ulysses, Nebraska. In 1930, they moved to Perkins County, 6 miles north of Grant.

In August 1934, they retired from the farm and moved to Grant. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary February 9, 1954. Mr. Styskal passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Ogallala Rest Home where he had been cared for since, March, 1959.

Funeral services were held at the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church at Grant Monday
Nov 23, at 9:00 a.m. The Rev. Father Peter Naughton, pastor, officiated. Acolytes were Mike Benge, Andy Roberts and Larry Joe Peregrine. Casket bearers were Matt Schmitt, Louis Trojan, Earl Kercher, Charles Sejkora, Mike Kukla and Henry Beckius. Ushers were Adolph Kosmicki and Don Schreiter. Interment was in the Grant Fairview cemetery. The Lyon Funeral Home, at Grant, directed the arrangements.

Survivors include his widow, Sophia; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Agnes Jacob; five sons, Joe J. of Scottsbluff, Cyril of Seward, Anton and George of Grant; one brother John Styskal, one sister, Mrs. William Bartunek of Bee; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren, one brother Frank and one sister Mrs. Mike (Frances) Hamata preceded him in death.
