On 2 June 1788, Thomas bought the land of Josiah Dyer, deceased, at a sheriff's sale for £400.
From the diary of his Thomas' nephew, John Dyer, Sr. -
"Brother Thomas Dyer formerly Esqr Departed this life between 1 & 2 oClock last night or this morning of a Lingering Consumptive Complaint the 27th of march came here & kept his bed for nearly 3 months first began with a bilious fevour and after that to a Decay or Consumption which wasted his flesh & brought him so Low that he could scarcely speak, was buried the 6th at plumstead."
