Velma Marie Edington, age 87, of Coffeyville, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at Windsor Place in Independence.

Velma was born February 20, 1923 in Little River, Kansas the daughter of Lawrence Inlow and Alma (Irvine) Inlow. She attended schools in Little River and sang in the school choir and graduated from Little River High School. She married Wiley M. Edington on April 8, 1940 in Wichita, KS. They moved to San Francisco, CA during WWII while Mr. Edington served in the U.S. Army and Velma worked in the shipyards in San Francisco. In 1946 the family relocated back to Kansas residing west of Elk City on a farm, they later moved to San Jose, CA and moved to a farm south of Elk City, Kansas in 1960.

Velma worked at Electra in Independence for 3 years and later worked at the Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons where she retired from. Mrs. Edington was a member of First Baptist Church of Coffeyville and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. She loved plants and flowers and enjoyed singing.

Velma is survived by her children: Nancy Mercereau of Coffeyville, KS, Ronald Edington of Dewey, OK, Michael Edington of Elk City, KS, and Patsy Jones of Ottumwa, Iowa., 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Robert Inlow and Lee Inlow, both of Copan, OK. Velma was preceeded in death by her husband, Wylie Edington and two sons, Clark Edington and Gary Edington.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Edington will lie in state on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. She will also be in state Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions maybe made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1186 and remembrances maybe left at the funeral home.
