Ron Edington, 71, of Dewey died Wednesday in Vinita, Craig County. Far west of Oklahoma, Ronald was born in San Francisco on July 23, 1943, and raised in San Jose, CA by his parents Wiley Malone Edington and Velma Marie Inlow.

The family moved to Elk City, KS, when he was 10 years old. Ronald first laid eyes on his future wife Marilyn Sue White shortly thereafter. They were united in marriage on August 15, 1964, in Bartlesville, they settled down in Dewey and moved into their current home in 1968.

Ron was a hardworking man who used his hands and God-given skills in many ways. For most of his life, he was self-employed. He graduated from Tulsa Welding School and used those skills in his various business. He owned and operated Maron Inc. a trucking company for several years, served on the Dewey Volunteer Fire Dept. for 20 years from 1966-1986, and in between all that, he opened Dewey Texaco in 1968. He loved the farm and also did custom hay baling and hauling.

He loved to spend time with Marilyn and his close friends, oftentimes scouting out auctions and garage sales. He also enjoyed socializing and entertaining groups of people with his many tall tales and love for singing. Perhaps not unrelated to his larger-than-life storytelling was his love of fishing and of elk hunting in Colorado. Ron by chance got to fish alongside Hank Williams Jr. in British Honduras. Just recently he designed, cut and sewed a quilt that won first place at the Pioneer Days Tractor Show in Caney. Ron will be remembered by many in his own words: "This is Donald Duck in the little bitty truck with the big web feet and the air ride seat. Quack, quack!"

Ron is survived by his loving wife Marilyn of the home; four children Rita Bibles of Bartlesville, Brenda Rouse and Jay of Sun City West, AZ, Randy Inlow of Bartlesville, and Lori Jo Egnor and Shorty of Vinita; one brother Michael Edington and Vickie of Elk City, KS; one sister Patsy Jones and John of Fairfield, Iowa; six grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Gary and Clark Edington, and one sister Nancy Mersereau.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3, at the First Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Everett Peace officiating. Interment will follow in the Timpson Chapel Cemetery.
