THE DEATH OF JOHN A. DONELSON
The spirit of John A. Donelson, the leading citizen of Stockwell, took flight yesterday morning at 9 o'clock. Typhoid fever, from which he suffered a long time, was the cause of death. The deceased was a blacksmith and carriage maker at Stockwell and was one of the best known citizens of Lauramie township. He was born in Sweden on October 6, 1846, and came to this country in 1870, locating in Galveston, Texas. On April 24, 1872, he was married to Miss Christina Anderson, who survives. Five years later the couple moved to this city and then to Stockwell, where Mr. Donelson engaged in business. Deceased was member of the Stockwell M. E. church, of Lodge No. 439, I. O. O. F., of this city. The following children survive: A. F., Walter and John Donelson and Mrs. Sally Barger. Mr. Donelson was not only one of the most enterprising citizens of Stockwell, but one of the most popular. He earned the respect and honor of the community by dint of his honesty, integrity and grace of mind and manner. He was an earnest Christian and a conscientious citizen. The funeral will be conducted from the Methodist church to-morrow morning at 10: 00 and Rev. C. G. Leeson, of Fowler, will officiate. The interment will be made in the Stockwell cemetery and will be under the auspices of the Odd Fellows. (Ref: The Lafayette Daily Courier, Tuesday September 1, 1903.)
