Henry E Strode was born September 19, 1859, in Sangamon county, Illinois, and died August 30, 1916, at 1:30 a.m. at his home in Agra, Phillips, Kansas. He was 56 years, eleven months and eleven days of age and his death was the result of an attack of rheumatism which affected his heart.
Mr Strode came to Smith county when sixteen years and made home here continuously until 1913 when he purchased a hardware store at Agra and moved to that place. He had been married three times, the last time to Mrs Cora S. Dyer of this city, in 1909. Henry Strode made many friends during his long residence here and his death came as a shock to the community.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the M.E. church in this city under the auspices of Odd Fellows lodge, of which he had long been a prominent member. He is survived by the wife, one son Earl Strode of St Louis, Missouri; one daughter, Rosetta May Strode of Nevada, Missouri; a brother; Robert Strode of Riverton, Illinois and three sisters, Mesdames Mrs Frost; Mrs George Hammond and Georgeanna Stinson of this place, who have much sympathy in their loss.
Mr Strode became a member of the Methodist church in this city in 1910 and upon his removal to Agra united with the same denomination at that place. All members of the Odd Fellows lode are requested to meet at the hall at 9:45 Friday morning to assist in the funeral services.
