Loy, Peter H. Age 18. Residence Wapello County, nativity Iowa. Enlisted Dec. 22, 1863. Mustered Jan. 15, 1864. Wounded severely and taken prisoner April 25, 1864, Mark's Mills, Ark. Exchanged Feb. 25, 1865, Mustered out Aug. 24, 1865, Devall's Bluff, Ark.
-------------------------------
Died at his home in this city, Feb. 12, 1908, Peter H. Loy. He was born in Wapello county Feb. 15, 1848. Being only 13 years old at the opening of the rebellion, he was too young to respond at once, but he donned the blue at 15 years of age, enlisting as a recruit in Company E, 36th Iowa, on Dec. 27, 1863, and continued with the regiment, receiving an honorable discharge. The regiment was disbanded at Davenport, Sept. 8, 1865.
He lived all his days in this county. He was married to Susan Anna Wilkins, March 17, 1870. To them were born four sons and six daughters. Two sons and one daughter preceded him in death.
Surviving him are his wife, George A., and Jesse H. Loy, Mrs. Lloyd Buchanan, Mrs. George H. Cudworth, Mrs. John T. Johnson.
He was a member of the Tuttle Post G.A.R. of this city and the members of the post attended the funeral and conducted the usual ritualistic services.
The deceased was among the few youngest survivors of that great union army now rapidly passing away.
The wife and children desire to return thanks for the floral offerings, to the John Morrell & Co. Relief association, the old soldiers, and neighbors, for their kindly service and remembrance of him. - Contributed
