Senah Erwin, daughter of John R. and Hannah (Bishop) Erwin. was born on October 01, 1801 in Rowan,County, North Carolina. She was one of eleven children. Her family moved to Tennessee and she remained there until her marriage to James Ebenezer Newton on May 23, 1822 in Shelbyville, TN. They could have been married by James Ebenezer Newton's father, Rev. George Newton minister of the Shelbyville Presbyterian Church.

Senah and James Ebenezer Newton had nine children, all born in Tennessee. The entire family, minus one daughter that had passed away in Tennessee, moved by covered wagon with other families to Texas. Senah's father, mother, and many of her siblings remained in Tennessee and can be found in the Erwin Cemetery.

Senah's husband James Ebenezer Newton passed away on December 20, 1856. She had two sons and one daughter still living at home. She continued to live in the Panola County, Texas area until her death on January 13, 1882.

Her son Ebenezer James Newton wrote her obitiuary printed in the newspaper.
