John was the son of John F. Klein and Bernadina Von Bokern. On 20 Oct 1918 he married Louise Kirchner; they had no children. For many years he was a truck driver for express companies. He was also the owner of the Belmont Kennels in Lyndon, Kentucky, and a breeder of show dogs. John died of a coronary occlusion at the age of 41.

Note: The other individual engraved on the headstone was the brother of John's wife Louise.
