Hilton Carl "Hilt" Stegall, 82, died on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a sudden illness. Born on March 12, 1928, in Itawamba County, he was a son of the late Henry Lee and Pebble McFadden Stegall. Mr. Stegall attended New Salem school. After working at Hatley Sportswear and Dura Crates, he opened and operated Stegall Backhoe Business for 30 years. He was a dedicated member of Smithville Baptist Church. A wonderful father and grandfather, his family was most important to him. He enjoyed farming and tending to his cows, spending time at the lake and his cabin, listening to gospel music and watching Unity Broadcasting.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Smithville with Bro. Wes White and Bro. Grady Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughters, Patty Stegall of Smithville and Janice (Johnny) Gentry of Tupelo; stepdaughters, Leigh (Allen) Duncan of Smithville and Kim (Dee) Bowling of Tupelo; sister, Kathryn Foy of Acworth, Ga.; brother, Dillard Stegall of Locksburg, Ark.; grandchildren, Amy Franks of Smithville and Whitney (Travis) Waters of Colorado Springs, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Megan and Derreck Franks, both of Smithville; stepgrandchildren, Emily, Katie and Matt, all of Smithville, and Drew, Eli and Ryan, all of Tupelo; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Maxine Stegall and Dorothy Irvin Stegall; two sisters, Louise Stegall and Francis King; and two brothers, Bob and Dan Stegall.

Pallbearers will be Derreck Franks, Travis Waters, Bill King, Bob and David Stegall, and Doug Foy. Honorary pallbearers will be Lionel Stegall, Nick Stegall, Ed Suggs and Jason Robbins.
