Philip passed away Monday evening at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 6 days.

Philip Alfred Fry, son of Charles Wesley and Mae Christina Isobaker Fry, was born July 23, 1920, in Sigourney, Iowa. He was a 1938 graduate of Barnes City High School. December 27, 1941, he and Catherine Shipman were united in marriage in Lancaster, Mo. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 6, 1943; serving in Company A. 401st Glider Infantry, 101st Airborne. He served with honor during World War II in Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe before being discharged as a Sergeant on December 3, 1945. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, GO 161 Hq Airborne Division 13 July 1945 Distinguished Unit Badge, GO31 Hq 401st Glider Infantry, World War II Victory Medal with four Overseas Service Bars, Bronze Arrowhead, Lapel Button. Philip returned to Iowa where he worked as a farmer. In 1952 he and Catherine moved to Des Moines and Philip started a plumbing and heating business. In 1969 they moved to Colorado, where they lived in Greeley, Red Feather and then primarily in Fort Collins, where Philip continued to work in the plumbing and heating business. Philip and Catherine returned to the area in August 2006 settling in Barnes City.

Philip is survived by his daughters: Grace (Vernon) Deucore of Summersville, Mo. and Christina (Larry) Diebert of Roswell, N.M.; sons: David Lewis Fry of Oskaloosa and Charles (Sandra) Fry of Barnes City; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, David & Phyllis Fry of Beacon.

Besides his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, who passed away on February 20, 2008; two sons: Donald and George Fry and two sisters: Ruth Louise McIntosh and Bernadine Padgett.
