The wife of Editor J.H. Clawson of the Howe Herald died last week of typhoid fever.

"Rindie" passed away on August 8, 1900, in what is now Howe, Le Flore, Oklahoma. (At the time Oklahoma was known as the Indian Territory. Oklahoma statehood was in 1907.)

She was the first child born to Prudence Malinda Slauter and William Martindale Benson on December 14, 1854, Pine Village, Warren County, Indiana. She married Joseph Haynes Clawson on September 22, 1873, in Warren County, Indiana. Six children were born of this union: Gilbert Arthur "Art" born on August 26, 1874, William Timothy "Roy" born June 20, 1880, Joseph Isaac "Willard" on November 19, 1882, Don Dean born on March 22, 1885, Louis Lloyd born on September 17, 1889, and Eugene "Dewey" born on February 20, 1898.

She was preceded in death by her mother. Surviving her is her husband, Joseph Haynes Clawson and her children; her father, William Martindale Benson; sisters, Cynthia Ann, Rosa Jane, and Mary Theodoshie; brothers Samuel Issac and William Willard Benson; Step-mother, Margaret Ann (Fagan)and half sisters, Tressie Treene, marguerite Christine, Lucy may and Clara June, and half-brother, George Watterson.

Internment is in Howe Cemetery, Le Flore County, Oklahoma.
