"Bettes Council, 100, of Paris died Thursday, April 18, 1996, in McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with the Rev. R.C. Bell officiating. Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery under direction of Maxey Funeral Home.
Mr. Council was born Aug. 10, 1895, in Lamar County, a son of the late George and Classie (Harris) Council. He was previously employed by Babcock and Wilcox and was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. He attended Lamar County schools.
Survivors include a son, Rudolph Council of Paris; daughters, Alene Nelson of Fort Smith, AR, Naomi Henderson, Sara Coursey and Mattie Donaldson, all of Paris; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will be pallbearers."
