Augustus Ralph Ingleman Found Dead
A suicide letter to a friend, led police to the body of Augustus Ralph Ingleman, 69.
Ingleman, who lived alone, was a retired real-estate man. He kept an office in the Savings & Loan building, where he dealt in savings and investments.
According to his secretary, he was depressed when he left the office at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday. He had been despondent for several days and was reported in ill health for a year.
Leaves Combination
This was the sequence as related by authorities:
Before leaving his office, Ingelman locked his safe, but left the combination on a piece of paper on his desk.
At home he wrote a suicide note and mailed it with a key to his house to a friend of the family.
Then he took three cushions fro the sofa into the kitchen. He laid them parallel to the stove, drank poison, lay down and died between 4 and 7 p.m., according to the Deputy Coroner.
Police discovered the body at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday when they (and the family friend with the key she received in the morning mail) went to the house. Also a note was discovered addressed to his attorney.
Injured by a car
Six years ago, Ingleman suffered severe head injuries and body bruises when he was struck by a car in front of 3309 University, Ave.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dave Nelson, Long Island, New York; Mrs. Max Van Benthuysen in Canada with her husband; and a son, John Wayne Ingleman, Washington, Iowa.
