Andrew Thomas Miller, 81, of Ivy Terrace, Tupper Lake, NY. died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at his home.
Born August 1, 1922 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Andrew and Rose (Peets) Miller.
He grew up on Facteau Ave. and completed his school years at Holy Ghost Academy.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served honorably in Okinawa and Pearl Harbor and was overseas four consecutive
years.
Returning in Tupper Lake he met Helen M. Seery, also of Tupper Lake. They were married at Holy Name Church on July 20, 1946 by Fr. Finnigan.
A lumberjack by trade. Tom felled trees on powerline jobs on Big Tupper Blue Mt. Lake Museum and many other locations for over 30 years.
The couple moved to Grand Isle, Vermont where Tom worked for Pizzagalh Construction for eight years.
They retired and returned to Tupper Lake in 1985.
Tom worked for a time as custodian at Don Smith Apartments.
He enjoyed cutting silhouette, lawn ornaments, walking, visiting neighbors and enjoying sporting events. He was a Patriots fan.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years; his children: Wayne and his wife, Katherine of Essex Junction, Vermont, Arleen "Jiggs" Young of South Burlington, Vermont, Shirley and her husband, James Connor of Schuyler Falls, NY, Michael Miller and his wife, Judy of Albuqueque, New Mexico and Bunnie and her husband, Rene Harris of Avon, Indiana. Also nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred and his wife, Judy of Tupper Lake and Clifford Miller and his wife, Patricia of Plattsburgh; three sisters, Rita Paddock of Hatfield, MA., Eva Villeneuve of Berlin, NH and Beulah and her husband, Gilbert Martin of Tupper Lake and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Amos Miller and his sister, Beatrice Brockway.
Calling hours were held Sunday, February 8 at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake.
A funeral Mass was held Monday, February 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. Graveside services, with full military honors will be held at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in the summer.
