Made Study of Indian Village and
Cliff Ruins for Smithsonian Institute.
Buried Here Tuesday.

Cosmos Mindeleff, aged seventy-five
years, died at his home north of the
village on Sunday, June 26, 1938.
Mr. Mindeleff and his wife, Marion
Mindeleff, who died seven (actually 5) years ago,
came to Carmel about twenty-five
years ago and purchased the Dr.
Knudson residence, where they had
since resided, Mr. Mindeleff commuting
to and from New York until he retired
in 1929.
Mr. Mindeleff had been in poor
health for several years, but his death
came suddenly due to a shock Sunday
morning.
He is survived by two brothers.
Mr. Mindeleff was at one time connected
with the Smithsonian Institute
in Washington. He made annual visits
to the Indian country in Arizona,
New Mexico, Colorado' and southern
Utah and studied the cliff ruins and
the old Indian village ruins of those
regions and his papers on these subjects
were later published by the
Smithsonian Institute. He traveled
extensively and was in newspaper
work for several years. He resided
for lengthy periods in London, Paris
and in Florence, Italy. At various
times he was connected with the New
York Sun, New York World and the
New York. American, on which newspaper
he was foreign corsespondent
during the World War.
A short service was conducted by
Rev. H. P. Simpson, pastor of the Mt.
Carmel Baptist church, at the Raymond
Hill cemetery Tuesday morning,
where interment was made in the
family plot with his wife.
