There is a widespread family rumor that Ellen was a full blooded Iroquois Seneca Indian... She was not. Her family lineage traces back to Ireland and Germany and DNA shows we do not carry Native American genes.

In 1876, when Ellen was 21, she had a relationship with a man named Erwin "Leroy" Gowan. Their union produced a son, Stanley S. Gowan. When Stanley was almost five, Ellen married William Skinner and he raised the boy as his own. The couple added six more children to their family. William died just a few months after they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Ellen lived another quarter century after William's death.Someone created another memorial for 'Ellen Gowan' which F.A.G. merged into this memorial. That bio stated, "She was married to Erwin Leroy Gowan who was born June 1854 in New Albion Catt Co New York. He died Jan 7, 1882 and is buried at sea in the Atlantic Ocean Great Britain. They were married on July 4, 1876 in Little Valley Catt Co New York by John Davis E.S.Q. His parents were William B. Gowan and Jane Emily Giffin."

I've not been able to verify the Gowan marriage information for Ellen. That same person created a memorial for Erwin Leroy Gowan and listed his death information as stated above. The records I found trying to verify that death were for an E. Gowan, Merchant Marine, who was born in England. I've not connected Ellen to that memorial as her spouse because there are too many doubts regarding it's accuracy.
