Rachel was my Great-Great-Great Grandmother. She was born near Ithica, New York in 1799. She married my Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Zenas Manley some time in the 1820s. Zenas was a veteran of the Connecticut Militia in the War of 1812 and, with a number of cousins and brothers, began moving west into New York and Pennsylvania sometime soon after the war. Zenas and Rachel had 7 known children: Jackson, Darius, John, Hester, Henry, Permelia, and Andrew. Eventually, the family moved to Pennsylvania for a short time, and finally, in 1855 made another move to Tunnel City in Monroe County, Wisconsin. Zenas died two years after their arrival (1857). Rachel lived with her sons John and Andrew and daughter Permelia until her death in 1869.
