Geraldine Caroline Ostroot was born April 10, 1914 in Lake Preston, Kingsbury County, South Dakota. After she graduated from high school, she went on to Augustana College to earn a Teachers Certificate in 1936. She taught in South Dakota schools from 1937 to 1945.
In about 1945 she moved to Pierre, South Dakota where she became involved in state politics. She was very active in the Republican Party and held a number of party offices. She was elected Secretary of State for the State of South Dakota. She served in this capacity from 1951-1957. She is listed in the Who's Who of American Women.
On August 28, 1956, she married Noel Tillman Tweet. (They had no children.) They moved around for a number of years. Her husband Noel died at San Antonio, Texas on August 20, 1992. Geraldine died January 27, 1996 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville, Oklahoma next to her husband Noel. She is survived by her sister Norma Jerde, Burnsville, MN and several nieces and nephews.
