Came from a family of 15 other siblings in Texas. He hitched trains to Illinois as a young teenager with a brother Joseph Rupert Dupuy (Tex) to Galesburg, IL then to Chicago and then to the Quad Cities. Suffered from an accident where a grinding stone flew apart and caused head injuries later in life. Drowned in the Mississippi River at Clinton, Iowa Another brother Alvin lived in Galesburg.
