Frank Benjamin Ratzlaff died Friday Deptember 6, 2002, at his home. He was 87.

Mr. Ratzalff was born July 5, 1915, to Peter P. and Julia (Decker) Ratzlaff in Seibert, Colo.

On May 10, 1936 he married Lorraine Orr in Lamar. She preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 1969.

On Aug. 1, 1970, he married Dorris (Loomis) Schroeder in Denver.

Mr. Ratzlaff had a dual career. He farmed near Lamar until 1955 and periodically worked for Brown Lumber Co. as a carpenter. He moved to the Longmont area in 1955 and farmed until 1962. From then until he retired in 1978, he worked as a carpenter.

Mr. Rattzlaff was a passionate about his hobby-converting two gas-powered cars to electric power. His first projet was a 1971 Datson that he began working on in 1981. He drove it in the Boulder County Fair parade from 1988 to 1992 and enjoyed traveling almost daily, even if only for a drive in the country or the mountains.

Mr. Rtzlaff fellowshipped at New Creation World Outreach Church.

He was a member of the Denver Electric Vehicle Council.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; five brothers; and two sister.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; two sons, Franklin E. Ratzlaff and his wife Sharon of Longmont; Marvin L. Ratzlaff and his wife Linda of Longmont; two daughters, L. Jeanette Brown of Longmont and Lois B. Grubbs and her husband Harold of Longmont; two stepsons, Paul M. Schroeder and his wife Debra of Johnstown and James R. Schroeder of Fort Collins; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, Monday, Sept. 9 at Foothills Gardens of Memory.

Children: Franklin Edward, Lora Jeannette, Marvin Lynn, Lois Belle.
