Daniel Elbert Bowers was the third child of the Rev. John Leonard Teter Bowers and his first wife Mary "Polly" Cannon. Daniel married Louisa Abigail Heaton on 28 Jan 1873 at the Heaton Home in Siam, Carter, Tennessee. They had seven children, but only four lived to see their third birthday. Daniel had the unusual nickname "Barefoot Dan" because he would plow his field without shoes.

Gravesite Details
Daniels tombstone is large and is placed in the front right corner of the cemetery. As of 3/1/2013, the cemetery was overgrown with weeds and Daniel's tombstone has fallen on its face. The Sheriff's Dept. has agreed to cleanup the cemetery.
