Reuben was born in CT in 1748 to Joseph Stanton and his wife Abigail Freeman. He married Orpha Lapham in 1770 and they had 10 children. He was a Baptist minister in Stonington, CT and was said to have lived in Dutchess County NY before coming to the Albany County area after the Revolution with his family and his parents.
When his wife Orpha died in 1804 he remarried Phoebe Dorman with whom he had one child in 1812. Phoebe died in 1852.
