According to that source, he sailed on the following vessels: the schooner Coral (relinquished to brother Robert in 1846); the brig T.P. Perkins (1846), 1849; the schooner Royal Welcome ; the bark Malina (1857); the barkentine Clara E. McGilvery; the ship C.B. Hazeltine (1869, 1875, 1880); and the brig Stephen Bishop (1878-79).

His mother was Deborah Cushing b 1787.

Welcome had a Twin sister names Anna Cushing Gilkey.

Welcome was married to Evaline Angeline Ross on 25 Apr 1848 in Isleboro, Maine.

They had 3 children. Deborah Cushing Gilkey b 1949, Emily Ross Gilkey b 1851, Malina Anvers Gilkey b 1857.
