Elizabeth "Betty" Roundy Alvey passed away peacefully December 2, 2010. Born October 31, 1926, in Escalante, to Wallace N. and Ella Mae Griffin Roundy, Betty was the seventh of eight children. She married Henry Smith Alvey May 5, 1947, and their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. He passed away March 12, 1993.

Betty was always an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various capacities in Primary and ward and stake Relief Society. Music was an important part of her life. She blessed the lives of many people with her talents on the piano. She never read music but played by ear. She played the piano on the band wagon for over 50 years for the 24th of July parade.

She worked in the Escalante grocery stores most of her life. She made friends easily and enjoyed visiting with old and new friends. She also loved to crochet and made many baby blankets and doilies. The greatest joys in her life came from her children and grandchildren.

Survived by her children: Linda (Jay) Stokes, South Jordan; Irene (Greg) Tait, South Jordan; Johnny (Stacy) Alvey Palmdale, CA; Tony Alvey Wamsetter, WY; Frank (Angie) Alvey, Stansbury Park; sister, Wavie (Ralph) Siple, Idaho Falls, ID; brother Jerry (Sherree) Roundy, Escalante; sister-in-law, Myla Roundy Mendon. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Smith; brothers, Floyd, Glade, Bud and Viv; sister, Edna Smith.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Escalante Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Escalante City Cemetery. Funeral Director: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina, and Manti
