Kathleen Carter Schwab was born in Dallas, Texas, on October 16, 1909, to Joseph and Kathleen (Howard) Carter. AFter attending Kidd Kay College, she worked as a young executive with a cosmetics firm. Marrying Elliott Schwab on December 25, 1935, they lived in Tulsa, Oklahome, St. Louis, Missouri, Kansas City, and Chicago, Illinois until his retirement from Merck, Sharp, & Dohme in 1966. Wherever they lived, she would find a church home and become active in one of the Baptist churches, school, and civic groups -- serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, held offices in church women's groups, made visitations for the church; as President of the Mother's Club of one school disctrict; as Regonal Director of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution). In Kansas City, she was known for her Christian-oriented charm program on television. Retiring in Yoakum, she and Elliott were active members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and in other local civic groups. He died Monday, December 12, 1977; she died Thursday, August 24, 1978, at the age of 68 years, 10 months, 8 days. She is survived by one son, Phillip Carter Schwab of Austin; one grandson, Phillip Elliott Schwab of Austin, one granddaugher, Kathy Schwab of Yoakum; two brothers, Gilbert Carter of El Paso, and Dr. R.F. Echols of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Geraldine Hollingsworth of Houston; nieces and nephews. Following the service here at Holy Cross Friday, August 25 at 3 p.m., interment will be held in the Westside Cemetery at Yorktown.
