"OBITUARY - Edgar H Allen - [Contributed] - Again our little town has been saddened and made anew to realize that 'in the midst of life we are in death.' When Edgar H Allen, familiarly known to almost every young person and child in the whole community as 'Uncle Ed,' was called to rest on Sept 5, after an illness of less than a week. Although he had been a sufferer from asthma for many years, yet his death came as a great shock to every one. He was born Feb 14, 1845, in Trombull (sic) [Trumbull] Co, O, being the oldest son. In 1862 he enlisted for service in the One Hundred and Fiftieth Pennsylvania regiment, Company C, and after active service was honorably discharged in 1865. He was married in Rockdale, Crawford county, to Martha J Henry in 1878. Two children were born unto them, the eldest dying in infancy. The second daughter, Mrs Fern May, resides at the family home near Three Bridge. Deceased is survived by his aged mother, Mrs Julia Allen of North East, Pa, also the following brothers and sisters: Arthur G and Ward of North East, Pa, Cornelius E of Corry, Charles A of Buffalo, NY, Alonzo of Kansas, Mrs Frank Lambert of Erie and Mrs Etta Fitch of Grand Valley; besides a large number of friends and relatives who all sympathize with his wife and immediate family in their bereavement. Funeral services were conducted by Elder T J Smock of Geneva, who had for many years been a close friend and adviser of the family, at the Union church, Thursday, Sept 7, at 1 o'clock. An aboundance of beautiful flowers were given by loving friends and the many kind messages and helpful deeds were fully appreciated by the sorrowing family. Interment was made in the East Branch cemetery. Those from a distance to attend were Arthur and Ward Allen of North East, Pa, Cornelius Allen and wife, Mr and Mrs Archie Allen, Mr and Mrs L J Smith, Harley and Grace Smith, L E Nichols and Minnie Fitch, all of Corry, M Ashley of Titusville, Mr and Mrs W Fitch of Oil City, Leon and Lon Fitch of Union City, and Mrs H Raymond of Youngsville. - East Branch, Sept 11, 1911"
