ARMSTRONG
Services are pending with Denton Funeral Home for William "Bill" A. Armstrong Sr., 2206 Hillcrest St. He died at the local hospital Sunday.
He was born in Stuart, Okla., and moved to McAlester, Okla., when he was a small child. He graduated from McAlester High School and served in the Army during World War II. He married Helen Goodspeed in McAlester in 1942 and moved to Carlsbad in 1953 where he worked for U.S. Borax for 13 years. He later worked for two years with the Forest Service and since 1968 has worked for the city of Carlsbad in the water department.
He was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and was past commander of VFW Post #1098 in McAlester. He served 13 years as scoutmaster for Carlsbad Troop #75, and served as chef for the Knights of Columbus Hall for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, Carlsbad; two sons, William A. Armstrong Jr., and Robert Warren Armstrong, Iowa Park, Texas; and six grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Denton Funeral Home Chapel for William Arley Armstrong Sr., 2206 Hillcrest St. He died at the local hospital Sunday.
Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Edwards Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Bono officiating. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Kelher, Tommy Martin, Jerry Brunt, L.C. Hoyle, David Leos, Mike Vasquez, Glen Jones and Billy Canada. The Fourth degree Knights of Columbus will act as color guard.
